Women's Sexual Expression~Claiming Our Sexual Birthright!

by Administrator 23. June 2009 09:19
Learning to love ourselves completely as women, means
embracing all that makes us female. Being completely free
to express all aspects of our sexuality is our Divine Birthright.
To fully embrace our powerful womanhood, we need to see
clearly what has blocked us and kept us trapped.

In looking at our history as women, we have seen the impact
of the patriarchal religious destruction and fear that has been
inflicted on both women and men. Obviously, we have
evolved a great distance since the Dark Ages, and the pace
has quickened considerably since the 1960’s. To reinstate
the Goddess to her true, whole and total power sexually in
the world, we must examine where and how the Goddess
was splintered apart from herself.

Down through the ages, the Goddess has been expressed in
the form of numerous feminine archetypes. All are powerful
and important aspects of the female psyche. The Whore
and the Madonna, or the Whore and the Virgin are two major
feminine and masculine archetypes that have been seriously
damaged and have become painfully conflicted within the
feminine and masculine psyches.

In the ancient goddess-based cultures and religions, the
Whore or Sacred Prostitute was the Initiatress into the
sacred sexual mysteries. The Sacred Prostitute was highly
honored for her wisdom and knowledge. She was revered
and seen as the human expression of the Goddess “Shakti.”
The Goddess Shakti (an East Indian Deity) is the sexual
consort to the God “Shiva.” Together they are an archetypal
and spiritual expression of pure love, spiritual and sexual
ecstasy of the masculine and feminine.

Our feminine Shakti energy has no bounds in its ability to
experience pleasure and give pleasure. This feminine sexual
power, or Shakti power, is why woman have been repressed
and controlled by patriarchal religions for so long. This
repression and fear of women’s vast sexual energy all but
destroyed our natural relationship with our own inner Whore,
and has successfully reduced the Sacred Prostitute to the
seedy level of prostitution that we know today. The Whore
archetype now carries a brand of shame buried deep in the
cultural consciousness, thus creating the Whore-Madonna
Syndrome, which has been aptly named by the
psychological community.

The natural flow for all women is to dance back and forth
between her Whore and her Madonna or Virgin aspects.
The split that has occurred between these two aspects
of female sexuality and identity are vividly evident in our
contemporary culture. Many women, when younger, are
active sexually with their boyfriends, lovers and/or spouses.
At this point they see themselves as sexual beings with
a cohesive sexual identity. However, when they give birth
and become mothers, many women lose almost all sexual
desire. These women become locked into the mother
archetype and have no seeming willingness or ability to
integrate the Whore and Madonna aspects of themselves
into their lives. These women are living examples of the split
in our feminine consciousness.

In the ancient Goddess-based religions, the sexual act was
seen as transformational, life giving and essential to
community harmony and perceived as extremely sacred.
There was no split between Spirituality and Sexuality. The
Goddess was congruent with herself. Because there was no
separation between her Whore self and her Madonna self, she
could be receptive and active, dancing back and forth as it
pleased her. The Goddess was cohesive, powerful, loved
and therefore, the connection with the Beloved was innate.
This cohesiveness and connection flowed naturally into
lovemaking with the Beloved, allowing the lovers to weave
their powerful energies together without fear, repression,
shame, guilt or pain. The sexual act was seen as a
ritual of beauty and transformation, a blending of their lives,
bodies and hearts together harmoniously with nature.

This is our true birthright.
